Camp
Flintlock
Colonial Encampment
December 6,
2005
Our 6th and 7th graders had a fabulous experience today at the colonial encampment set up on our campus. Camp Flintlock colonials gave our students the opportunity to learn, first hand, how families lived in the Revolutionary War ear (1770's). Despite the chill, the students had lots of fun learning how to beat the drum for signals, stoke up a fire and cook a one-pot meal, throw a tomahawk, make Indian bead necklaces, print using blocks, play colonial games, and how to stay warm in colonial clothing. This experience ties in very nicely with 7th grade social studies, and the 6th graders will relate much better to this material next year.
Our Lower Schoolers were greeted by the fife and drum at drop-off this morning, and our Upper Schoolers peeked out the windows when the musket was fired. So, this activity was enjoyed by all!
