Rocky Mount Academy

Lower School

The mission of Rocky Mount Academy -- to prepare its students for the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities that they will encounter in life and in college -- begins in Lower School. The Lower School provides a solid and comprehensive foundation upon which students will build their futures.  A strong phonics-based language arts curriculum, hands-on math and science, and daily social studies instruction are the cornerstones of the Lower School program.

To enhance academic instruction and enrich the students' overall growth and development, enrichment courses are incorporated into their daily schedules. These courses include:
  • Art
  • Music
  • Physical Education (4 days per week)
  • World Languages and Global Studies
  • Computer Lab/Technology
  • Guidance
  • Library
In addition, our Lower School students travel off campus for a variety of educational experiences throughout the year, and each year, guest speakers and visiting authors join us to share their work and experiences with the students.

Our experienced staff of 14 teachers and 4 assistants in grades Pre-K through 5 is committed to providing quality instruction to meet the needs of every child in Lower School. For students who need additional support to reach their academic goals, our Learning Skills Program offers students the opportunity for one-on-one or small group tutoring and enrichment.

In Lower School, our commitment to our families is to provide a rich and thorough educational experience for students that will pave the way for success in meeting the challenges that lie ahead in school and beyond.
