Hello Guest!  Welcome to the Third Grade Page!

A day in Third Grade at RMA

is a day filled with friends, fun, and challenging learning experiences!

Each child will spend half of the day with Mrs. Weeks for Language Arts and the other half with Mrs. Scott for Math, Science, and Social Studies. Special Classes include weekly studies in Art, Music, Guidance, Physical Education, Technology, and Library.

In Language Arts one focus will be on exposing the students to a wide range of literature experiences to build comprehension through Guided ReadingStudents will be introduced to many genres of enriched reading.  Reading instruction will use before- and after- reading strategies and activities.  Another focus will be on Working with Words.  Many interactive activities that build phonemic awareness will be used to help children apply phonics in all areas of the Language Arts program.  A strong emphasis will be placed on developing Writing skills as we learn the steps of the writing process.  Learning Grammar rules and applying them will help Third Grade students be better writers, readers, speakers, and listeners.

In Math we will focus on a thorough understanding of the value of numbers with multiple "hands-on" activities to help third graders use numbers for solving computations and word problems.  A study of communities ranging from cities to countries will give students the tools to better understand how our lives relate to the past and present world in Social Studies.  And, in Science, we will sharpen  inquiry skills with high interest activities that lead young minds to discover the wonders of space, earthly environments, the human body, and the chemistry of the matter around us.

As you can see, Third Grade is an exciting adventure that challenges all students to be the best they can be as they grow and mature as young learners!
