We would like to welcome you to the marvelous world of First Grade! First Grade is an exciting year, one in which the students make wonderful discoveries about themselves and the world around them. As their teachers, we are so fortunate to be a part of this exciting journey. We strive to provide the very best learning environment for your child, which in turn, will foster their love of learning and help them develop the skills needed to become independent readers and writers.
As the Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Wooten teaches Reading, Writing, and Spelling. Her teaching combines a variety of methods, including a strong focus on phonics. The students are introduced to a wide variety of literature, encouraging a lifelong love of reading. Writing is an important component of First Grade, and our students learn the fundamental rules of language while developing a variety of different writing styles.
In addition to Language Arts, the students are introduced to the stimulating world of Mathematics, Science and Social Studies in Mrs. Jones' classroom. Fundamental concepts involving numbers, along with interesting problem-solving activities, are an integral part of each teaching day. In Science and Social Studies, the students develop an appreciation about the world in which we live and gain an understanding of their responsibility as citizens in our community, nation and world.
First Grade is filled with exciting new experiences and adventures. We embrace the endless possibilities awaiting our students and want to partner with you to help your child become all that he or she can be.
