Rocky Mount Academy Kindergarten is a half-day program. In January, we start an extended day program where children will attend one full day a week. Then later in the year, we will go to two full days a week. The children get really excited about going to the lunchroom on extended days.
We use a phonics-based language arts program and a very hands-on approach to math along with our text. It is amazing to watch the academic growth in the children as they progress from letter and sound recognition to reading words and simple sentences. It is just as exciting to watch them grow as they move from number recognition to adding and subtracting.
Children grow in many ways during the school year, and you won't believe how independent they can become. When they come in the door by themselves and put their belongings away by themselves, it is okay, mom. They are just growing up!
Kindergarten is filled with many exciting new experiences. With the collaboration of parents and teachers, we know we will have a successful year! |
